Week 2 Part 2

Skiing & Condoing again

Thursday March 11: Bright sunny day, but No Powder, so the Powder People joined us for a group ski, while we played with the Talkabouts. It was decided to go take photos of Boots on "his" kicker. The previous day, he and his entourage had built this on Blackcomb (down in the trees off 7th Heavan, away from marked runs) but had been sprung and routed by Ski Patrol before they got to use it. Boots reckoned that everyone at Blackcomb then went and used it (he may have been exaggerating slightly).

Some Scenes of Condo Life this week:

Denis gazes upon the falling powder...better than TV!

Above and below left: Denis snapped us mad young hooligans having wild Condo parties again...NOT! Tigger on the far couch (he seemed to like it there), me and Boots on the near one.

And to the right, the ultimate fridge-magnet, totally unsuitable for a 2-door fridge. Getting access to the Beer was difficult, but not impossible. The large board was Boots'; he was attempting to destroy it daily. (Damn, that fridge was taller than me!). I think the idea was that Boots' board would corrupt Denis' board. Ha.

Friday 12th: Snowing lightly: me and Tigger had yet another bludge day (I donated my ticket to A Snowboarder); I could barely walk, let alone ski! Shopping, and then zero in on Buffalo Bills for the beginning of a pretty good night.

The usual group gathered for Beer and Wings.

Tigger attempts yet again to beat Buffalo Bill's skiracer game
It was Craig and Dori's last night in Whistler, and we were all invited to their place to help use up their spare alcohol (yippee!). We made careful preparations by attempting to use up Buffalo Bills' spare alcohol first. We were joined by Colin, the Liftie from Yukon (right, with Tabi). Tabi and co had been skiing Creekside, poaching the new closed area. The lifts closed, but they found a friendly liftie who let them on (Colin). Just as the gondola was taking off, they remembered that their cars were at Creekside! So they pulled the emergency brake and piled out. Colin was very nice about it, so they invited him back to the pub. And there he is.

Tabi and Colin. He comes south to work in Whistler as it's "too cold" in Yukon!

Then, off to Craig and Dori's, Craig proving to be an evil man with a cocktail mixer, I had far too many but so did everyone else. Then they went off huntin' women, while me and Tigger headed home.

Right: Tabi watches Drunks: The Musical! featuring Boots, Denis, Tigger and Rich in their new uniform, presented by Craig.

Left, a contrast of snowboarders, Denis and Sean (property of Boots).

Boots expresses himself
Saturday 13 March: oh, the hangover! The weather was quite foul, but I followed Tigger up anyway, big mistake, it was very windy with poor visibility, so we skiied back down, into the rain and went looking for lunch.

Yet another Condo Balcony shot!

These are snowjets. I have seen one in Australia,
and here there was a line stretching as far as the
eye could see at the bottom of Blackcomb.

Sunday 14: It snowed all night, but the day dawned very bright and clear, so we went up Whistler for a look around, but there seemed to be a lot of cloud hanging around the top, which was annoying. We skiied down below it and found some nice corduroy slush! Into the village to collect Tigger's photos, and to the Dubhlinn Gate, where at the bar we met some lovely Poms. We had been discussing local beers with the barmaid, when one of the British guys heard, and announced happily "Local Bear! Made from Snoo!" so we all began chatting, whiling away a very nice hour. Then, we went up Blackcomb, for a look-see too. Then Tigger had to get back, as he and Boots were driving to Seattle that evening.

Tigger, on our last day............

Back home, Tigger was in a flurry of packing, as Boots was very concerned about the Big Drive. Tigger was instructed not to drink, as he may have to help with the driving. However, Denis and I observed Tigger unobtrusively going into the bathroom, wearing a towel, holding an open beer. Was this a variation on that men's habit of reading on the loo, we wondered? Then we heard the shower go on....They eventually left, taking the laptop, and so now we were Cut Off from the Internet. That night, the building's fire alarm went off for the 4th time. If Rich wasn't in, we could ignore it, but unfortunately he had a fetish for the things and would make us evacuate. False alarm, as usual.

Monday 15 March: Time to ship out. It seemed there was property spread all over Whistler: someone's skis were with Dan, Dan's pile of hankies/bandanas were at our place, someone's ham (yes, ham) was in our fridge (Rich suggested posting it back to them, COD). I packed up and headed for the local Budget Rent-a-Car, finding that the tiny little cheapie I'd booked had somehow become a Chevy Malibu in the night (mid-sized sedan).
Loaded it up, mentally prepared to try driving on the right-hand side of the road (on the wrong side of the car!), and headed out of Whistler, pointing North.

(This pic of the car was taken on my return to Whistler. It was Very Clean when I picked it up).
